Another set of hands

Post by nufftin »

Dear All:

I know that this suject has been dealt with, most recently in Hesperus' post (viewtopic.php?t=2700), but I'd like to help out. I'm a long-time musician/recovering musicologist who is presently choirless, but still would like to keep a hand in.

In a sense, I'd like to be given a project, most likely a low-priority project for someone else. I don't have access to manuscripts or old books of music, but I do have LilyPond and a willingness to do grunt transcription work to help someone.

You all seem like nice people. I'm taking suggestions.

Thanks much.

Lots of work to help with at CPDL ...

Post by johnhenryfowler »

Hi Nufftin,

Thank you for your kind offer of time. There are many tasks to do, so you
can really have your pick. I'm just finishing a convalescense at home from
a left hip replacement, and have spent hundreds of hours working on various CPDL tasks.

My last effort was to add a bunch of popular music books, and link the
specific works to our editions ( ie. Carols for Choirs 1 ). Feel free to add
you favorite anthem book to the collection. Its under "Musical Publications" on the Main Page of CPDL or here:

http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Cate ... blications

Because of the approach of the Christmas season I have been transcribing
the lyrics of christmas carols into the "works" pages. Any page that
doesn't have the lyrics in the page can be edited to include them. You
open up the score file in a separate window, and just transcribe into
the works page (Edit tab opens up the source).

Previous versions are backed up, and easily reverted to, so don't be
reluctant to try out the task of adding lyrics.

The HYMN category could be worked on, or the CANON category:

Go to

http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Canons

to see all the works pages which are canons. I did some of them
already.

The canon:

http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Et_i ... o_Valls%29

with PDF file:

http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/images/9/92/Valls-eti.pdf

Could be your first try (if you want)

There is a help page (under development) which has a section on adding
original lyrics or translations. It is Here:

http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/User ... slation.3F

Good luck ! Leave me a "Personal message" or PM on the forum if
you get stuck or want your work looked over...

Thanks much, John. I hope the surgery went successfully. You must have put out that information hundreds of times, thanks for doing it once more for a noob.

So much to think about!
