December 26 - 31: works in progress at CPDL [completed]

In the period of time between December 26 and December 31, 2008, the IT Operations team of CPDL will carry out some activities aimed at consolidating the operations of the wiki and of the forums. This will include the re-programming of DNSs, that may require up to 48 hours to propagate all over internet, and the up-dating of the phpBB software to a new version. Temporary outages of the CPDL wiki and/or of the BB may occur. We apologize for the inconvenience.

At this very time (December 27, 13:10 GMT) the propagation of the new DNS settings is in progress. If your DNS has been reached by the new settings, you should be able to access the forums through the following URL, which is supposed to be permanent from now on:

http://forums.cpdl.org

Please note that the BB is now running on a new, separate server with respect to the wiki. As a consequence of the migration to a new server, you may need to login again, even if you selected to be automatically logged-in when the BB was hosted on the previous server.

It's very encouraging to see that the transition committee now have full control of all of CPDL's runnings, including the backups and domain names. My thanks to Max for making all this possible.

The new DNS settings are active since some days, so they should be known to all the DNS servers around the world now.

Both the wiki website and the forums are now reachable through the URLs that are supposed to be final:

- http://www.cpdl.org (or simply http://cpdl.org) for the wiki;

- http://forums.cpdl.org for the BB.

The BB has been up-dated to the latest phpBB version, and relocated to a new server, operated by a different provider and in geographical diversity with respect to the wiki server. The wiki server is also hosting a back-up of the BB, while the BB server is hosting a back-up of the wiki. This approach is supposed to allow back-up operations even in the case of disaster in one of the two server sites.

Other domain names previously used temporarily for CPDL, such as choralwiki.org or choralwiki.net, are all re-directed to cpdl.org, so users having bookmarked other URLs, or getting an old URL through search engines, should be able to reach the final URL anyway.

The wiki is receiving many visits from crawlers (e.g., googlebot), that are re-indexing the wiki under the cpdl.org domain name in lieu of the choralwiki.net, so search engines will likely report the cpdl.org pages only in the future.

I think this step of the transition phase can be considered as completed.
