Mediæval Latin Abbreviations for Editors

For editors confronted by abbreviations of Latin in early MSS and prints, from simple hypochoristics like ff for fratres to the various hooks and diacritics denoting larger structures, like 9~ for contra or fili9 for filius, and many more that I can't begin to approximate here, there's a handy reference manual:

The elements of abbreviation in medieval Latin paleography by Adriano Cappelli

which is available in translation here:

https://kuscholarworks.ku.edu/bitstream ... ppelli.pdf

It allowed me to decipher an Attaingnant print in which the lyrics were peppered with some of the more obscure such abbreviations.
It's short (60 pages), and worth printing out to keep handy on the shelf.
Cheers,
David

PS Why are the fora so moribund? Has no-one had anything to talk about since 2019? Or am I missing activity elsewhere?

Thanks for the link.
I see many messages for 2020 and 2021 at index.php.
Be sure to 'refresh' the page (circular arrow on the upper left part of the browser page or F5 key).

The "active topics" function, within the "Quick links" menu, is also useful to monitor the latest posts:

search.php?search_id=active_topics

Thank you to those who replied about the forum activity. I was mainly expressing my disappointment that the Musical Questions thread was not seeing much activity, as that's where I feel most able to contribute answers to others' questions. The technical aspects are not my forte.
Cheers, and with appreciation for everyone at CPDL,
