Repertoire ideas? Nature/seasons
Repertoire ideas? Nature/seasons
Any repertoire suggestions on the theme of nature and/or seasons for mixed-voice a cappella chorus (scores on CPDL or else available elsewhere), preferably by living composers? Examples of the *type* of sound we gravitate toward include Whitacre, Ticheli's Earth Song, Ola Gjeilo, Frank LaRocca, Ivo Antognini, William Hawley. Ideas appreciated...

Re: Repertoire ideas? Nature/seasons
You're certainly welcome to try one of mine if it would be a good fit.
"Frog Song" (Very difficult). http://youtu.be/E32Kip3mcMw
Or "Rabbits All Around" (Easy). http://youtu.be/FKKNHAnT_i0
Scores for both of those are on CPDL.
Have you ever tried Whitacre's "Cloudburst"? It is a cappella plus a very brief smattering of handbells but does need a large group for the sake of the drama. How about "Sumer is acumen in" or however you spell it? Good for a smaller group, although not by a living composer.
I know this topic is regularly discussed on the ACDA choral.net forums, so that might be another good place to hunt for some ideas.
Have fun!

Leanne Daharja Veitch has various compositions related to seasons. Here's one that might fit:

Howzabout the Corrette Psalm 148, Laudate Dominum:
Religion ("the opiate of the masses" - Karl Marx) set to Vivaldi's Four Seasons (the Op. 8 of the masses). What could be better?

The forces may be over-large, but strip them to their bare essentials, and then you have the naturist link.

Thanks for the ideas--I've forwarded them along and welcome any additional thoughts people may have.
Maggie, Frog Song is not too difficult at all and we welcome complexity.
