I've just started to sing Morago's Laudate Pueri:

This is one of those masterpieces of Portuguese polyphony of the 17th century. Really great!

Indeed.

Anyone know the piece at this link? It says Joseph Haydn Salve Regina, but it's not the choral one. Any idea about the Hob #, if it is indeed Haydn? I'd also love to know who the singer is...

XXIIIb:1 Salve regina, E S, 4vv, 2 vn, bc (org) - 1756(?)
XXIIIb:2 Salve regina, g S, A, T, B, str, bc, org obbl - 1771
XXIIIb:4 Salve regina, E♭ S, A, T, B (?solo vv), str, bc (org) - 1773
XXIIIb:5 Salve regina, G S, A, 2 vn, bc (org) - 1766 (probably by J. Heyda)

These are the "Salve Regina" settings that I know of.

it's this one:
XXIIIb:1 Salve regina, E S, 4vv, 2 vn, bc (org) - 1756(?)
... and I think its Nancy Argenta singing (but I'm not sure)

Thank you so much! That's definitely the right Hob # for the piece.

I can't quite tell if it's Nancy Argenta but it sure sounds a lot like her. The Amazon recording I found of Nancy singing this piece is noticeably different in interpretation but a similar voice. I hadn't heard of her until you mentioned her, but am looking forward to checking on more of the singing she has done.

I don't know many sopranos (including Argenta). I only have one record by Argenta, so I've assumed it would be her. I like a lot of the soprano's timbre on YouTube. She doesn't have much vibrato so it sounds good to me :) .

glad I was helpful

I like that Baroque type of voice with little vibrato, too. Other good singers of that genre that I'm familiar with (mostly because they did participated in the one-on-a-part recordings with Bach Ensemble recordings led byJoshua Rifkin):

Julianne Baird (I like the warmth of her voice:)

Judith Nelson:

Emma Kirkby (the least warm voice in the bunch):

Jane Bryden (can't find YouTube samples)

BTW, Emma Kirkby and Judith Nelson on Handel duet which was later repurposed as two different solo movements in the Messiah:

Also, if you like that kind of voice, I recommend the Joshua Rifkin recordings of one-voice-per-part versions of works such as Bach cantata 147, Bach Bm Mass, etc.

The person who posted it finally replied about who the soprano is:
La soprano, c'est soit Marie-Claude Vallin ou Ann Monoyios, je ne sais pas
car c'est mal précisé sur la pochette ...
