H. Alexander Matthews: The City of God

Post by 1431GraceSt »

I am looking to borrow or purchase 25 copies of H Alexander Matthews "The City of God", an extended work of about an hour composed in 1917 for the 400th anniversary of the Reformation. I am also looking for the orchestra parts as well, if they exist anywhere. G. Schirmer was the publisher. Thanks for your time.

Worldcat reports this work published by Schirmer in 1917 as a vocal score with organ. Copies are available at the following US libraries:

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Libraries, GCTS Libraries - South Hamilton, MA 01982
Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Talbott Library - Princeton, NJ 08540
Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, Krauth Memorial Library - Philadelphia, PA 19119
University of Pennsylvania Libraries, Van Pelt Library - Philadelphia, PA 19104
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh, PA 15213

I found no information about orchestra parts.

One more possibility: if you wanted to try to borrow the scores, it would be worth searching to find out what choirs have performed the piece, and then asking if they are willing to sell or lend the scores.
