Schubert & CheckMissing

Post by Richard Mix »

The Franz Schubert page http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Franz_Schubert is in need of updating, but I'm terribly puzzled by the different output of Template:CheckMissing after I removed Recent_additions (i.e. my 2 edits of Sept 7: http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?titl ... on=history). Why are Der Lindenbaum (Am Brunnen vor dem Tore) (Ludwig Erk) and my less recent uploads no longer appearing under Other works not listed above?

Der Lindenbaum (Am Brunnen vor dem Tore) seems currently listed. Which are the other titles to check?

Please note: whenever a new work is added (or anyway when the composer page is updated) please perform a null edit twice (null edit = open for editing and save without changing anything). The MediaWiki software incorporates a very aggressive caching mechanism that may delay the displaying of the latest updates, and null edits help to refresh the cached page. This suggestion is also provided if you follow the link associated to "See Template:CheckMissing for possible reasons and solutions".

Today the behavior of the 2 versions in the history is different, but I'll keep the null edit trick in mind. I'm reminded of an amusing item I once came across in the physics library called the Journal of Unreproducible Results. :roll:

I know the article of which you speak, but when I went back to quote it here I couldn't find it in the catalogue.

Schubert's page is a hand maintained list (with a lot of links that have become redirects: e.g. ''An die Laute'' points to ''An die Laute, D 905''), and newer pages haven't been added yet. If you look at
http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?titl ... with_piano

You'll see the old list side buy side with an automated list using #SortWorks:Lieder (background at
http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Help ... oser_pages
)
which longer, but for some reason misses [[Der Tod und das Mädchen (Franz Schubert)]].

A weakness of automated lists is that they can't easily be annotated, and a hand list including lyricists &c, backed up by http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Temp ... eckMissing would seem to offer the best of both human and machine.
