Trinity Compline Choir making CPDL's music come alive

Post by compline jefe »

Nestled above the foothills of the Northern Sierra Nevada in California is an ancient musical anomaly: an observance of the office of Compline by the Trinity Compline Choir. As the seventh and final 'office' of the monastic day, it is essentially a short, chanted prayer service with a history that started around 379 A.D. and intensified during the Medieval times and the Renaissance. As the leader of the Trinity band, finding appropriate music to sing is one problem that CPDL contributors have helped alleviate and that have saved the day for me, over and over again. However, that's only half the equation. The other half is molding the music to fit our format: Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass. Yes, there are a very few pieces and collections that work as printed, but I've rearranged or composed about 100 pieces now for the somber and soothing sound of an ATBarB Quire. Ah, the trusty .sib 6. These can be had as a free download on the Quire's website: http://trinitycomplinechoir.org
Each Compline has an mp3 and a listing of the music sung so some of you can hear YOUR music efforts come alive.

running the Compline Choir is like driving the team on a Medieval hangover.
