Problems with interwiki links

Post by pml »

Hi all,

sometime in the fairly recent past several of the interwiki links (which is maintained as part of CPDL's Mediawiki database) have been rendered incorrect - in particular the ones which are flagged to use a "target=_blank" snippet of html code so that the external page loads in a new browser tab or window. The main issue is that the equals sign and space have to be protected from the table, since the format doesn't seem to allow them, so the old format enclosed them with double quotes "". The new format unfortunately seems to interpret these double quotes as part of the URL, causing the link to fail. I've fixed my own wiki links, and will be working through the remainder and testing a solution.

The beauty of interwiki links is that you can simply specify links to pages on remote sites, e.g. [[wikipedia:Claudio Monteverdi]] or [[IMSLP:Category:Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus]]. The external website need not be a Wiki either, e.g. you can link to Google searches by using [[google:search phrase]]. The list of sites that can be accessed this way is found at:

Thanks to whoever added the SpecialInterwiki extension to allow these to be edited or added by means of a Special page, rather than by having to request a bureaucrat to mangle the CPDL database!

Regards, Philip

Hi Philip, this new handy feature was introduced very recently: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4491&p=11080

Thanks for fixing the broken links. I also deleted those that had little chances of ever being used on CPDL.
