Re: Proposal for a new service at CPDL - choir training aids

Generally speaking, training aids do not require the user to be familiar with the handling of MIDI files, such as muting or reducing the volume of all voices except the one that the user is willing to learn, and emphasizing the desired voice instead. Furtermore, some training aids are actually sung,...

Proposal for a new service at CPDL - choir training aids

Since Choralia ( http://www.choralia.net ) has become "official sponsor" of CPDL, I'm receiving an increasing number of requests by CPDL users to contribute to Choralia with their own choir training aids. Apparently, there are several people who create training aids for their choirs, and t...

Re: Why is www.cpdl.org domain unreachable?

my tech support guy found that this old domain registration--which I expect would have been 'authoritative' in DNS parlance--was never properly canceled when y'all set up the new CPDL server The procedure to move the "authoritative" DNS from sonic.net to another provider was carried out a...

Re: Midi channel disposition

Generally speaking, CPDL contributors provide sheet music in the form of pdf files. Some contributors also provide alternative formats (e.g., MIDI, Finale, Sibelius, etc.) to facilitate other users to import them into their music editing applications, and derive other works. Choir practice is not a ...

Re: Midi channel disposition

The file named verd-pat.mid is structured as follows: - the soprano 1 is on MIDI channel 2, alone; - all the other voices are mixed on MIDI channel 3, but they are logically separated using some MIDI features that allow to distinguish different voices within the same MIDI channel (or, from a differe...

Re: Why is www.cpdl.org domain unreachable?

We receive an average of 200 thousand page visits per day at http://www.cpdl.org. You have to set your DNS so that http://www.cpdl.org is resolved as 74.54.72.146 (sorry, I mistyped the last section). As this server is shared with other websites, you cannot just enter the IP address (e.g. http://74....

Re: Forbidden access?

In the case of problems, the hosting provider sends a notification to our administration email, as it's the reference email they have. Carlos, I'm adding you to the forwarding list of the administration email, so that you also receive such notifications. You may create your own account to open ticke...

Re: Forbidden access?

More info: there is work in progress at the hosting provider's data center. They said they will need one hour or two to restore normal operations. I'm a bit disappointed, but it's a good opportunity to test our back-up/site diversity strategy under real conditions. The back-up website at www1.cpdl.o...

Re: Forbidden access?

I think it has been a mistake of an operator of the hosting provider, I've already requested the re-activation.

Re: Why is the ChoralWiki so slow right now?

Today and yesterday the script that automatically performs a full back-up of the Choralwiki, and that "clones" everything to www1.cpdl.org, aborted. I had to complete the task by manually running some operations. This never happened since the beginning of January. I think that the hosting ...

Re: Why is www.cpdl.org domain unreachable?

It seems you have a DNS problem. Your DNS is probably resolving www.cpdl.org with the IP address of the old server used until September 2008. Please check your DNS settings: http://www.cpdl.org should be resolved to IP address 74.54.72.246, that is the current main operational server.

Re: Which pitch pipe do I need?

I'm probably too technological, but, as an alternative, I may suggest using mp3 files on a mobile phone...

BTW, a tuning fork is slightly sensitive to temperature due to dilatation of metal, while mp3 files are not.

Re: French copyright question

I would suggest to read this wikipedia article: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Droit_d%27auteur.

If I correctly remember, France is aligned to the other European countries about the 70-year principle, however post-war time extension may increase the term up to about 14 years in certain cases.

Re: French copyright question

I think that the legal position about copyright is quite obvious: scores obtained through CPDL should be used legally, in compliance with local regulations. Even though the copyright section at CPDL is subject to being revised shortly, I'm pretty sure that a general policy existed since the beginnin...
