Re: Am I too loud?

Lovely when that organic ensemble negotiation happens, isn't it? I've been pondering this a lot. Some people just have naturally big voices, and I don't mean to say that all people with big voices are musically insensitive. However, some people can only sing in a "pushed" fashion even in a...

Vaarky/Sandbox and Vaarky/Reference deleted?

Any idea why these no longer exist? I was using them to store reference information.

Re: Am I too loud?

It's fine to sing loud in a small ensemble setting, but not 4 times as loud as the other voices if the weighting between the voices is supposed to be comparable. The point is to develop the skill to realize, on one's own, if they're the one who is 4 times as loud as the others when it isn't supposed...

Re: Which pitch pipe do I need?

I should add that I think the Roll Away piano can play only one note at a time. so not good for chords unless you're going to roll them. It's useful primarily as a pitch-giving device or to play a series of difficult intervals, and not for accompaniment.

Re: A bit of a crash

Youch--you totally have my sympathies. That's one of the reasons I've become a compulsive saver, but it clutters up the CPDL logs and I've been training myself to rely on Firefox instead.

Re: Am I too loud?

It depends on the type of choir you sing with. In a symphony choir of 200, you probably are singing too loud if you can hear yourself. In a chamber choir of 16 or 20, that usually doesn't apply. As a general rule (with some exceptions), you should definitely be able to hear the singers on either sid...

Re: Which pitch pipe do I need?

I've been in settings where people have tried a lot of different instruments for pitch. My favorite for me to use is the tuning fork, but I also quite like using the Pocket Tones device. People seem fond of their iphone applications. For receiving pitch in rehearsal, I find tuning fork transmitted b...

Re: CPDL Copyright notice

Drew wrote: "The music itself is, of course, in the public domain (at least in the USA), and thus not subject to any copyright protection. As I understand it, the edition cannot be covered by copyright in the US as it presumably contains no new content, being merely a mechanical replication of ...

Re: Copyright Question

I am not an attorney. f the works you are speaking of are licensed under the CPDL license (not all works currently on the site necessary are), the following seems to be the provision that applies. It doesn't sem to prevent derivative works, or require that they be posted back to CPDL. Are you seeing...

Re: unable to edit talk pages

When CPDL upgraded, I couldn't edit anything either, even though I had an e-mail address defined. So I had to get CPDL to send me a verification message. I can't see where this option would exist for an unverified account anymore, because I'm already verified, but I suggest checking the My Preferenc...
