Re: Organ sound using MuseScore

Thanks Carlos, Although, in that particular case, it seems to have been an issue of hearing overtones properly (possibly poor quality speakers), or at least they convinced the poster that was what was going on after some argument. Someone on another forum suggested to me that I try notating a chroma...

Organ sound using MuseScore

I'm writing a choral piece with organ accompaniment for the first time using MuseScore and am having issues with the playback. I'm not sure if there is a bug, or if there is some feature or setting that I can adjust that I have yet to discover. MuseScore automatically generates a treble and bass cle...

Re: Proper notation of rests

I've just corrected the rests in my latest score, and, I think, successfully posted the updated version. ("The Plow Horse") This site really is a wonderful resource. Thank you all for taking the time to fill the gaping holes in my musical education.

Regards,
M. Furtak

Re: Proper notation of rests

Wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time!

I've just ordered Gould's book. It seems like a great resource to have.

And I will now go correct what I'm sure will be an agonizing number of rests in my scores. I leave smarter than I arrived!

Proper notation of rests

My favorite style guide says very little about proper notation of rests. Can anyone direct me to a resource that lists the standard modern notation rules, or summarize them briefly? So far I've got: Don't mark rests in such a way that they hide the beat, and it is particularly egregious to hide the ...

Re: upbeat easy a cappella rep suggestions?

"Which is the Properest Day to Sing" by Thomas Arne seems to be available here. If the venue is appropriate, the original words, "which is the properest day to drink…" (: Hmmm… you could try my "Rabbits All Around." That's posted here. It's basically a round, so it woul...

Re: choral works for invocation

Were you looking for a choral piece to serve as the prayer? (Try searching for settings of particular prayers… The Lord's Prayer, the Prayer of St. Francis, psalm settings…) Or did you want a choral response to a recited prayer? (Try searching for "Amen," "Alleluia," etc.) Do you...

Re: lyrics hyphenation

Regarding the hyphenation of single syllables, the original question was for words in archaic English in old hymns, where what is spelled as one syllable to a modern reader would have been pronounced as two in the original setting of the hymn. I'm not sure if there is a "correct" answer to...

Re: Proper voicing category?

Much obliged, Carlos! And off I go to choir. We're singing everything from the balcony in the back today, so it should sound divine. The Biebl "Ave Maria" and "If I forget, yet God remembers," which is an absolutely gorgeous setting of the Robert Browning poem by Daniel Pederson....

Re: Settings for youtube videos?

Well, here we go again... another piece with shifting keys, modes, etc., many chords that I can't even begin to identify... (and changing time signatures too this time! that's a new one for me!), and here's me, still without much music theory to help me out. I'd love advice from anyone who has a min...

Proper voicing category?

Hi administrator team, I just posted a new score that is for 6 part men. Tenor, tenor, baritone, baritone, bass, bass. If I read the score submission guide correctly, baritones should be listed as B, same as the basses, so that gives me TTBBBB. But I got a broken link on my works page from that beca...

Re: Settings for youtube videos?

So having thrashed around the internet this morning while drinking my coffee... Regarding the key signature and accidentals for my "I Laid Me Down" piece, is it more correct to add a C-flat as an accidental than a B-natural because one could think of the measures where that accidental occu...

Re: Settings for youtube videos?

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. And because I never took theory, in answer to your question. So I don't actually know the rule. (Hastily searching the internet for more information on this topic and getting ready to edit my copy...) I'm acutely aware of the gaping holes in my education, so please, no ...

Re: Settings for youtube videos?

Ah ha! Thanks Chris! Being sure that the video was widescreen seems to have helped at least a bit. Now the small player is clear. The full-screen player is clear. The large player is still blurry, but I think that it looks better than before. Here's a new one for comparison: http://youtu.be/EI2qy6az...
