Re: "All rights reserved" music hosted on CPDL
Just wanted to echo what Max said. Clarifying CPDL policy about what restrictions (e.g. pay if performing, or religious purposes only) are acceptable use, if any, is definitely on the to-do list. And then we will need to fix the documentation so it's not inconsistent (as it now is). This is recogniz...

Re: Concert in Rome / Concerto a Roma
Your training aids are a very helpful contribution to choral singing. It must be great to know that they're helping so many choristers. I sympathize with the challenge of funding concerts that involve paying for orchestra and soloists. It's somewhat easier if it's a larger group of choristers, since...

Re: Translation by committee
In the editions done by the director of my former choir, he would say the translation is by "his name and the ensemble name". This was his way of crediting the fact that in his group, he wrote the translation but there were people who speak Latin and contributed changes to the translation;...

Re: About Isaac's Innsbruck
A friend who has seen the original confirms: "I've seen the big old German book, and it has no tie, but a repeated note, with a repeated word. I don't think you can write it the way it appears nowadays." I wonder if modern editors/singers prefer the revised underlay because it's truer to t...

Re: Octave Tenor Clef
Are two G-clef markings right next to one another a different way to indicate the equivalent of the dangling 8? When we sight-sing something with old-style clefs or with significant transposition, it's always interesting to me to note what proportion of my singing is actually by interval, and what p...

Re: Octave Tenor Clef
I think this is because of the influence keyboards gained in Western musical training. The two clefs used by pianists are what the majority of people learn while they're young, what most music conducting and musicology programs require their majors have masters. A far greater set of adults doing Wes...

Re: how to do a boolean AND regarding categories?
Ah, gotcha. Noticed the new Multivoicing template--cool! I've already made some notes of alternate voicings for CPDL pieces and can go back to add them. I can't tell you what a Snoopy dance of delight I am doing over MultiCatList. It also got me realizing how that I can grok DPL so I may start dabbl...

Re: how to do a boolean AND regarding categories?
Related question, if I may-- What determines if something shows up under Michael Praetorius compositions? I couldn't identify the code in a score page that includes this among its categories--is one of the templates adding it and if so which one? I didn't see Ludwig Senfl compositions where it would...

Re: how to do a boolean AND regarding categories?
Is there a polite order for putting categories in order to reduce load on CPDL? For example, should the most down-narrowing one (e.g. William Byrd compositions) be placed earlier than something such as SATB which would get a ton of hits?

Re: how to do a boolean AND regarding categories?
Thanks, Carlos. Meanwhile I figured out how to use "match" (I was omitting the % symbol after the equal sign). I also looked at the raw DPL code on the Christmas/Advent page, so that helped me understand how to get it working using that. But I do prefer to use a pre-existing category for c...

Re: how to do a boolean AND regarding categories?
Couldn't wait, and thought I'd see if I can find which Praetorius piece the mystery Amen is part of, or at least how many SATB pieces there would be to eyeball if trying the brute force approach to check if it's part of a bigger piece that's even on CPDL. Renaissance & SATB worked great, but I'm...

Re: The Pitch of Tudor Church Music
I'm with you in wanting multiple transpositions. The examples you provided were excellent indeed. Based on both my ear and my preference for where I want my voice to play, I want soprano parts arranged so sops reach a high of G. Above that, most sop voices are too bright compared to the other voice ...
