Re: Greetings from new member...

When you move to the next page (the navigation menu on top of the image does not very much look like a menu) you will find the bass voice and all verses:

Re: We be soldiers three

See my reply to your request in the "New members" forum for a link to this piece.

There you will find all other pieces from Deuteromelia as well, which might be of considerable interest for your choir.

Re: Greetings from new member...

"We be soldiers three" is from Deuteromelia (1609) by Thomas Ravenscroft. There is no need to post an edition to CPDL because a Facsimile scan of the original print is freely available from http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/ravenscroft/deuteromelia/deut_08small.html Note that it is in triple tim...

Re: Why not CC?

I must admit that I consider the issue CC versus CPDL license not to be of sufficient importance to be decided in a hurry. Actually this is almost irrelevant because modern editions of public domain music can only be copyrighted in very particular cases (e.g. when they are the result of a comparison...

Re: Upgrade to the CPDL ChoralWiki

Good to hear that maintenance work on CPDL is done. After the upgrade, I have noticed however a very poor performance of the CDPL website. When trying to perform a search, I always obtain the message "To many database connections. Try again later", which seems to indicate a database config...

Re: Why not CC?

I may be wrong, but I think that CC was not yet established when CPDL was started. Other sites like Mutopia ( http://www.mutopiaproject.org/ ) had also started with their own licenses. Mutopia has meanwhile switched to CC, but obviously CPDL has not yet done the transition. Nor does it seemed to be ...

Re: French copyright law - illegal to release works to the PD?

Incidentally the situaton is the same in Germany: it is not possible to put an own work into the public domain, because authorship is simply a fact and copyright terms (70 years after death, in France I believe even longer) cannot be changed. Actually this is one of the problems that the Creative Co...

Re: simple gifts

Sheet music of Copland's "Simple Gifts" arrangement is readily available in print (a simple Google search will show publishers selling it). It seems that melody and lyrics of the song (but not Copland's arrangement, of course) are in the public domain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_G...

Re: Copyright Question

When a composer dies, his copyright falls to his heirs. So when the music is still under copyright, you must ask his formal heir for permission, which might be your grandfather, but if he is not the only heir things can become very complicated. Whether the music is still under copyright, depends on ...

This is not easy to answer because it depends on the source used for your transcription. When you are using a microfilm or photocopy of a 16th century print (e.g. provoded by a library or through a facsimile reprint), you are free to post your transcription wherever you like. When your source is a m...

After a superficial web search it seems that the 1970 facsimile reprint by "Corpus of early music" of Gastoldi's Balletti a 5v is out of print (I would however suggest to contact the publisher whether this is actually true). Alternatively you could look for a library that has this edition....

Does anyone know from which source this piece is? I was not aware that Caccini wrote sacred music. Can it be that this is a text underlay under some other secular piece, maybe even with major editorial changes like removing the written out diminuitions, which are very valuable for singers learning h...

Misleading copyright information?

The copyright information given on he main page that "all scores hosted on CPDL may freely be distributed and performed" seems to be somewaht misleading. At least I have incidentally come upon some pieces hosted on the CPDL server that bear very different copyright notices. For instance th...

There seems to be a misunderstanding: this is the Choral Public Domain Library, which essetnially means that you can find here only music written by composers that are more than 70 years dead. If "Il Divo" is a contemporary pop music group, the only way to obtain sheet music of their arran...
