Attribution of the doxology in Purcell's Nunc dimittis in G

Post by carlos »

My choir is currently preparing Purcell's Nunc dimittis in G minor, and we are in doubt with regard to the attribution of the doxology included in both editions available at CPDL. Please check the wiki talk page for more information and feel free to reply there if desired:

Thanks for any hint on this.

Its source in York states it is by 'Mr Roseingrave, junior'. Daniel Roseingrave who in Purcell's lifetime worked in England, but later in Dublin, had three sons, all musicians - Daniel, Thomas and Ralph. My 1980 Grove says it is attributed to Ralph.

Thank you for this valuable info! I'll pass it on to my conductor.
