Post by Pieter »

e.g. http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/0204143/details.html gives me the piece, but with piano (it's the only version sheetmusicplus sells as well)

Here is the response from Helene Whitson of choralarchive.org (it appears she too could not find a version with cello accompaniment):
I located two copies of the Massenet Ave Maris Stella in libraries. One is
at the British Library, and one is at Laval University. Here's the Laval
University description:

Ave Maris Stella : motet à deux voix / Jules Massenet.
Auteur(s) : Massenet, Jules, 1842-1912.
Titre uniforme : Ave Maris Stella
Éditeur : Paris : Heugel, [1900--1972?]
Sujet(s) : Ave Maris Stella (Musique)
Ch¦urs sacrés (Voix égales, 2 voix) acc. d'orgue
Description : 1 partition (5 p.) ; 35 cm.
Partition musicale
Traitement rétrospectif E
Note(s) : <80> Paroles en latin.

The call number is: M 2079 L161 M415 H592

In the British Library, it's in the Reference collection.

I would contact Université Laval and see if you can pay for a photocopy of
the piece, or if you could borrow it through interlibrary loan. They may be
part of the Association of Research Libraries, and you might be able to
borrow the copy. The University is in Quebec. I don't know if you'd have
much luck with the British Library, although they might photocopy, too.
Here's a general phone number for the Laval University library: 418

Here's what else I found:

It doesn't look as if it's for cello, but for organ accompaniment.

Hope this helps.

According to IMSLP, there's a manuscript of the original composition ("motet pour 2 voix et violoncelle ad libitum") at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, but I couldn't find on this site any info regarding how to ask for a copy.

hi guys,

i really appreciate your efforts...

i am actually in France, and asked here for a friend (a professional cellist)

we already established that there is a copie in Paris, they told us to stop by for a copie (it's a bit far however, about a 3 hour drive...)

we'd prefer to have a digital copie, even with another accompaniment...i guess i'll tell my friend to buy the book from sheetmusicplus.

thanks loads guys!

FYI, if you end up buying through SheetMusicPlus, they give 8% of the purchase to CPDL if you go to SheetMusicPlus by clicking the link from the CPDL page first.
