Looking for W Mundy "O Lord the world's saviour"

Post by aj.fabre@free.fr »

Hello,
I am looking for a choir music score for W Mundy's "O Lord the world's saviour" .
If any one has it, please let us know, even if not free,
we need it to complete our english music program for 2010.

Thank you for your help

Jerome Fabre

Note: more on our choir (non commercial of course) available at

If your own library system doesn't have it, it's worth checking the British Library catalog online (they may be able to provide copies of the original manuscript, and perhaps even another edition in modern notation if one exists). They have a way to pay a delivery fee and (if applicable) a copyright fee and can telefax or send electronic facsimiles.

I was just surprised to find this piece supposedly by Mundy, which I haven't heard of before:

Hello,
Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately I don't find anything through the british library on line catalog.

From this source, I wonder if the Mundy "Sing joyfully" mentioned by Vaarky is misattributed to William instead of to John. See also, here.

On the other hand, the St. Paul's Cathedral Choir (UK) sang a "Sing Joyfully" by William Munday at Evensong on October 13, 2009.

Odd--I recall coming across a listing for the alto partbook when I was expanding CPDL's page on Mundy, and thought it was there. I've asked a music librarian I know to see if she can help me locate it.

P.S. Thanks for finding that reference at St. Paul's, Chuck. I read through a bunch of scholarly articles trying to piece together comprehensive listings of pieces by William while working on expanding his CPDL page, and they made no mention of Sing Joyfully. There were some pieces that has only the composer's last name written on 'em, so perhaps St. Paul's disagrees with the bulk of the scholarship on this issue or made a typo. I'm planning to order a copy of the score to see what notes it has.

Hi Vaarky,

I was aware of your keen interest in William Mundy, so I was glad to do a little prying, unearthing the younger John Mundy. I'll be interested to hear what you find with the score you plan to order - perhaps it is a previously undiscovered/unpublished work?
