Sing along songs

I am trying to encourage people to sing along together as a way of building community. I am looking for songs that are fun to sing along together. I would hope they would be easy to learn to play and sing.
Any suggestions?

(Replying belatedly:) If you are still looking for ideas, please post more information. My sing-alongs tend to have a strong focus on the 1480s or 1980s, but I'm not sure what type of sing-along gathering you have in mind. For example, it would help to know more about the style of music you seek (sacred vs secular, era, a cappella or with support such as piano), and whether this is something you expect the participants to know how to sight-sing on the spot or learn together in the setting or learn on their own in advance such as by following the score while listening to a recording.
