Unable to update table
Unable to update table
Hi all,
I was trying to add new addition information. After I filled out the Add Work/Edition form for "Don't cry, little girl, don't cry" and tried to add it, I received an error message saying "unable to update table". Can you please help? Thanks.
Cheers,
Ken Sambuchi

Re: Unable to update table
You might need to double up the quotes - don''t cry - I'm pretty sure I have fixed the same problem that way. They don't come out doubled in the end result.

Hi Ken
Thanks very much for wanting to contribute. Unfortunately, this is a bug in our form. The techies Max and Carlos will be able to tell you more if you desperately want to know The note at the top of the form gives the instructions for overcoming this issue:

Hope this helps. If you're still having problems, pop a reply on here.(Technical note: If you use an apostrophe, you must use a backslash before it, or you will receive an error message and your score will not have been submitted successfully.)

That's it, sorry Robert, I misremembered.
Re: Unable to update table
Thaanks for your reply, Robert.
I tried the backslash without success. Is there just one backslash? Do I use a backslash in place of the apostrophe? Or, are there spaces between the backslash and apostrophe? I even tried entering the title without any punctuation at all and it didn't work. Are the apostrophes in the PDF and MIDI files causing a problem?
Cheers,
Ken

Re: Unable to update table
Most likely, yes. Please add the details of the work and edition here and I will do the necessary work for you. Do not submit the add score form again.oscosc wrote:Are the apostrophes in the PDF and MIDI files causing a problem?

Re: Unable to update table
The problem was related to apostrophes in the filename, which were replaced by the browser with undesired "%xx" sequences: Pink-don%27t.mscz.pdf had to be corrected as Pink-don't.mscz.pdf, and Pink-don%27t.mscz.mid had to be corrected as Pink-don%27t.mscz.mid.
I wrote a specific script to normalize filenames and replace any "%xx" sequences, however it seems that the "%27" sequence is not normalized automatically (wonder why). I'll probably have to add this sequence as an exception to be treated as a specific case.

Re: Unable to update table
I found this case described in literature. The filename normalization script should be able to correctly normalize filenames that include apostrophes, from now on.choralia wrote:it seems that the "%27" sequence is not normalized automatically

Re: Unable to update table
Hello!
Whilst trying to upload two selections today, I was met with the same "unable to update table" message. Neither filename has an apostrophe (though one has a comma -- the other doesn't). Is this a related bug, or something else? I didn't click "submit" again for fear of an unwanted duplicate.
Thanks,
Ross

Re: Unable to update table
Could you please provide details about the information you're trying to enter? Please note that only apostrophes in the filename are automatically corrected; apostrophes in other fields (e.g., edition information) still need a backslash for being treated correctly.

Here's the information I tried to enter (except my email address, which has no apostrophes):choralia wrote:Could you please provide details about the information you're trying to enter? There are six apostrophes in the above fragments of text (one in each saxon genitive, plus all double quotes that are actually pairs of apostrophes). Are you sure that you applied a backslash before all of them?Ross Jallo wrote:Hassler's ''Cantiones sacrae''

Re: Unable to update table
Ah, that fixed it. But it's odd -- I've had apostrophes in edition information before, and never needed backslashes then. Oh well. Thank you!
