Re: stage fright

Thanks DrewE. I've tried the quelling-of-trembling-muscles technique, but no sooner have I quelled one set than the trembling takes up residence in another set. My voice wobbles and my brain feels as if it's short-circuiting. I am fed up with it. I don't lack confidence in other areas of my life, bu...

stage fright

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been able to overcome stage fright/performance anxiety. How did you do it?

Re: Holy Manna and Wayfaring Stranger

Thanks for those tips Tim. I must admit that after listening to the YouTubes Blue Grass version of Holy Manna a couple of times, I began to doubt whether it would be interesting enough for a choral ensemble. I couldn't get the thing out of my head for about three days! It was driving me crazy; I had...

Re: Holy Manna and Wayfaring Stranger

Thanks very much DrewE. I heard both these songs on radio here in Australia: http://www.2mbs.com They were sung beautifully by the Anonymous Four. I then looked for the songs on YouTube and found a Blue Grass version of Holy Manna. For all the startling contrast between the two groups I thought the ...

Holy Manna and Wayfaring Stranger

I'm looking for a cappella arrangements of both Holy Manna and Wayfaring Stranger - SAB or SATB. I believe they are both USA traditional hymns. Can anyone help?

Re: Am I too loud?

This discussion has been most helpful. I'm particularly interested in what vaarky said about an ensemble negotiating blend volume, etc., organically. Our small ensemble has achieved this (seemingly accidentally) once or twice, and those occasions have been when our conductor was not present. Does an...

Thanks vaarky for your detailed suggestions. Much food for thought there.

Re: Which pitch pipe do I need?

That's an interesting idea, Max. A few of our singers are technologically adept and sometimes appear at rehearsals with mysterious small objects the function of which has never been revealed to me (at least not in language that I understand). I'm sure they'll be delighted by the MP3 idea. Can't wait...

Re: Which pitch pipe do I need?

Like 'crieth' in the first post our a cappella SATB ensemble of 9-12 is in need of an instrument (pitch pipe?) for when a keyboard is unavailable. Have there been any advances in the devices available since the above messages were posted in 2007? Does anyone have recommendations? What have been your...

Am I too loud?

Recently I have heard two pieces of advice to choral singers and would like to have your opinions thereon... 1. "If you can hear your own voice you are singing too loudly." 2. "You should be able to hear the voices of the singers beside you (in your section) and also hear all the othe...

Re: Translation by committee

vaarky... a general "music talk" topic would be much appreciated. Good idea!

Oh!..... I see you've started one already. http://choralwiki.net/phpBB3/posting.ph ... f=6&p=9369# I tried to put a smiling face here (haven't a clue how to do it)

Re: Translation by committee

Thanks DaveF... At least you didn't tell me to go elsewhere. I usually find "people banging on about their latest annoyances" pretty amusing actually. As for "elevated cultural discussion" - my own input would be ground-floor I'm afraid (I think I recognise irony when I see it th...
