CPDL homepage deleted?
Dear all, whenever I access the CPDL homepage www2.cpdl.org, I see the (for some obscure reason German) message that the Main Page does not contain any text. Has the main page been inadvertantly deleted? Or is this a localization problem? How can I avoid obtaining the German texts and get the Englis...

Re: Morales/Gregorian chant: Ne recorderis
I looked for this gregorian chant in the Graduale, the Vesperale and the Antiphonale, but could not find it. It is the responsorium after the 6° Lecture on the 2° Nocturn (Job 14, 13-16). Have you thought about looking in the Nocturnale Romanum ? That is where I would expect music for the Nocturns....

Re: -- copyright issues, Haydn Seven Words? --
This depends on whether the sources you have used are still copyrighted or not. When all of your sources are facsimile/Xerox copies of sufficiently old editions, there is no problem. When these are modern editions, the situation is unclear because the "All rights reserved" stamp of the pub...

Re: Ciacona di Paradiso et dell´Inferno- Anonymous
This specific ciaccona bears a striking similitude to Monteverdi's "Zefiro torna" This particular Chaconne can be found in several sources, so I would not dare to ascribe it to Monteverdi (themes for variations were a common good in the 16th century, like "La Monica", "La R...

Re: Ciacona di Paradiso et dell´Inferno- Anonymous
Most of the music in this style is for instruments (typically two violins and basso continuo).Does anyone know of similar music arranged SATB, or for two or three parts?
Here is a decent example:

Re: Help with renaissance notation! :'(
Concerning mensural notation, I would recommend the following manual, which explains everything short and comprehensive:

Good luck,

Re: help with transposition
Have you tried instead the lilypond sources from http://www.uma.es/victoria/partituras.html ? I would recommend to use the appropriate LilyPond version (the very old 1.5, I think), because using convert-ly does not work very well in my experiences. LilyPond does transposition with the \transpose com...

Re: plainchant/gregorian score of Veni, veni Emmanuel
What do you mean by "gregorian score"? A neumatic notation, either diastematic or adiastematic? I doubt that such a historic manuscript exists, beause the melody is alleged to stem from the 15th centuy, a period when neumes no longer were in use. So presumably the earliest notation was in ...

Re: Usage rights
Under the assumption that the above link actually represents the legal situation in NZ, the following two conditions must both apply so that you may legally copy the music for your choir and may perform from it in NZ: composer and text writer and arranger (if it is an arrangement of a third party wo...

Re: Thomas Campion SATB
There is no need to arrange the pieces for SATB from the lute tab. Actually, Campion's first book contains both three part and four part songs with lute tab. You can find a piece from the first book and two from the second (both were published in a single print, AFAIK) here: http://music.dalitio.de/...

Re: Madrigal accompaniment - Lute or guitar?
Dear nolinesbarred, as an example what I meant with an embellished lute part for "prima prattica" madrigals or French "chansons", I have posted an edition of a 16th century "hit" with an embellished lute accompaniment: http://music.dalitio.de/choir/sermisy/le-content/ O...

Re: Madrigal accompaniment - Lute or guitar?
When looking for a lute player, I would recommend to contact the lute society of your country, which certainly can name a few lute players nearby. What kind of "madrigals" do you think of? "Prima Prattica" (polyphonic (mostly) five part settings), "Seconda Prattica" (fe...

Re: Search for Marenzio's "occhi lucenti e belli"
The editions on CPDL do not give any source ([ranton]which is bad style but quite common on CPDL[rantoff]), but a bit of googling revealed that the piece is from Marenzio's third madrigal book from 1582. I have checked the catalogues of some facsimile publishers, but only found a facsimile of his co...

Re: freeware musicnotation programm
This is quite different with respect to computer programs that require to pay a license, also for personal use. I understand that copyright law has different restrictions for software and music, and agree that a sheet of music can be of value even when it may not be used for public performances (e....
