Re: Italian to English translation

Not for church then? Thanks Max. Interesting about the golliards: I just had a quick look for them on wikipedia and shall research more later. This will make for some interesting discussion within our small ensemble. Yet again I am grateful for the generosity of the CPDLers who are so willing to sha...

Italian to English translation

I'm having trouble translating the following into English. Have tried on-line dictionaries, but no luck; also tried my small Italian-English dictionary: No luck there either. Perhaps I'm missing something. Can someone help? I found this piece here on the CPDL, but am having trouble finding it again ...

Re: Holy Manna and Wayfaring Stranger

Thanks for the suggestion Joe. When I go to the holymeasures site it presents me with a 'Composer Log-in'. I'm not a composer so am not sure whether I should log in or not. When I click on 'Browse Songs (or is it 'Music'?)' I'm told to log in at the Composer Log-in. Not sure what to do. I'm probably...

Re: stage fright

I have found everyone's comments here interesting and instructive - including Grant's. It certainly didn't occur to me to take offence at what anyone has said. Some of us here are professional musicians, some not; it's interesting to hear what people think, and to appreciate how perceptions vary acc...

Re: Madrigal accompaniment - Lute or guitar?

Thank you for your replies. Thanks especially to Christoph for his detailed and most informative reply. Truly appreciated. We are a small ensemble of eight amateur singers and the few madrigals we are singing are mainly English: Dowland, Robert Jones, Thomas Weelkes, Thomas Bateson, etc. It's a musi...

Madrigal accompaniment - Lute or guitar?

As lutes seem rather thin on the ground in this neck of the woods, I am wondering if anyone here has used the guitar as an accompaniment for madrigals? Is the guitar a suitable/acceptable substitute? Why/why not? Your comments would be appreciated.

Re: New Member

Hello GUITARMONGER. This *is* a wonderful site. Your post re developing as a singer and guitarist made me wonder about the possibility of using a guitar instead of a lute to accompany madrigals. I'll post this as a query in Other Topics.

Re: stage fright

I must say that I didn't feel any anxiety when playing the tin whistle, recorder then clarinet; not much when singing in a big choir either (I'm strictly amateur and not a soloist). It's only when singing in a small ensemble that things get a bit rocky. I suspect there's something in the idea of hav...

Re: stage fright

Grant - Since first posting on this topic I have almost entirely overcome my stage-fright. Just 'talking' about it with the people here encouraged me to take a long, hard look at myself in performance mode. I'd always known my material (songs) thoroughly but had the completely mad habit of keeping a...

Re: new member

Hello Grant, Welcome. (I'm nothing special here - just another member). It's a wonderful site. I do envy you being in a place with such a large population.... Singers galore. I'm in a small town in Australia and it's hard to find singers for our little choral group. What sort of music are you singin...

Re: The Ashgrove

Good. I've just found Jeremy Rawson's arrangement of the Ash Grove here in the CPDL catalogue. Thanks Jeremy. If our little (non-profit) group sings it we'll be sure to acknowledge you as arranger.

The Ashgrove

Can anyone help me to locate an a cappella SATB or SAB version of the Welsh (?) traditional song The Ashgrove please? I have found an accompanied version and one for (if I remember correctly) TTBB in the CPD Library, but these are not what our group want.

Re: stage fright

Food for thought there, vaarky. Thanks. Particularly interesting about the unsophisticated subconscious.
