Re: H. Alexander Matthews: The City of God
One more possibility: if you wanted to try to borrow the scores, it would be worth searching to find out what choirs have performed the piece, and then asking if they are willing to sell or lend the scores.

Re: Good Websites with MusicXML-files?
Sorry I don't know of any sites. You could try CPDL.org's own search function to search on musicXML: http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?search=musicxml&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go The scores are free and most have lyrics, but you would still need to evaluate the results to determine if they...

Re: Modern vs Contemporary
I strongly would prefer Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Baroque, Neo-Classical etc. Composite categories like "Classical music in the Baroque style", or still "18th century music in the Baroque style", "20th-century music in the Renaissance style" etc. get unnecessarily granular a...

Re: Mozart's Musings
I had classes with an English teacher in high school who took what may be a similar philosophy regarding cliches or common turns of phrases, wanting us to really listen to them and use them judiciously rather than in the sort of automatic way they tend to roll off the tongue. It's helpful to highlig...

Re: Mozart's Musings
Welcome! Touch the Sky is nifty--if you have any a cappella pieces (esp. with lots of divisi), I'd be interested to find out more.

Re: Question concerning source for "sur le jonc.."
I don't have any information about this, but asked Helene Whitson, Founder, San Francisco Bay Area Choral Archive (choralarchive.org). Here is her reply in case it is helpful: I don't know about this chanson's origin as a folk song. It is in the Oxford Book of French Chansons. The composer listed th...

Re: mp4 videos
My feeling is that this should go under External Files (which can indicate what the link is for). That's also more "arms' length" from a copyright perspective, if a video has multiple performers.

Glad you were able to find help. To what Latin forum did you submit? It may be useful for people to know for future reference.

Re: Looking for "liturgy music" but not sure what it is properly called
If you know snippets of the text you would like to use, then you might want to enter some of the text in the search box on CPDL to find settings that use that text. Checking the categories at the bottom of the page will help you learn what types of categories and subcategories match. You can also tr...

Re: Jose Miguel Galan editions
Thanks for sharing your perspective. Aside from the option for contributors of editions to contact us about requesting exceptions to local hosting, which is what we're proposing at this point, to what extent would it help if CPDL added some icon next to the scores themselves to indicate (with an out...

Re: discussing folk songs history and origins
I asked Helehe Whitson, Founder of the San Francisco Bay Area Choral Archive. She wrote: Public domain usually means material published before 1923. The U.S. Copyright Office would probably have answers to such questions: http://www.copyright.gov/records. Often, the original song author/composer is ...
