Re: Help with renaissance notation! :'(

Arturo: it's not the easiest facs you provided, but it's short and should be worth to pick out some clues in understanding white mensural notation—printed or handwritten. But first of all you should be familiar with general terms and the look of this kind of ancient notation; the design of notes and...

Deeplinking to (at least copyrighted) YouTube content

I'm a bit concerned about recently added deeplinks to YouTube containing copyrighted material in some cases. I don't know if contributors are aware that "broadcasting" on YouTube does not imply the rights owners' permission to host their work there and to freely distribute it – even if it's "low fid...

I agree. I just referred to what Chuck has inserted.

Re: Minor layout issue

Chuck, thanks a lot for this microtype work! It looks great (also in IE [8], while I love my Firefox), but there is one last remark: the code now produces empty span warnings (because the <span> object is indeed filled with nothing). That's why I embedded the closing paren within the span element in...

Re: Minor layout issue

Dear all, I'm sorry, that this causes so much trouble! I know about the " " problem, too. Thank you very much for releasing all these ignorant IE candidates, Bill!!! May I suggest a more simple solution that derives from Carlos' great idea using the word-spacing property in CSS? You all try t...

Re: Minor layout issue

Chuck: this is incredible! Thank you so much for this "cosmetic surgery". I think that's an overall satisfying solution. I'm sure that others, too, will realize such detailed corrections; at least those who appreciate LaTeX's microtype package ;-)

All best wishes,
Robert

Re: Minor layout issue

Thank you all for taking care of this! Of course I am aware of the screen rendering problem and fewer means for good "typesetting" due to HTML and CSS restrictions! Not to forget browser-specific behaviour and support for special characters such as thinspaces. To my basic knowledge punctuation shoul...

Re: Minor layout issue

Dear Admins again, seems that my suggestion isn't worth to be fixed :-( Anyway, to me it looks more equal to have (3 editions available) rendered rather than ( 3 editions available ) . Another possibility would be to set it all in normal text: (3 editions available). This is not the only implementat...

Re: O Fortuna (Carmina Burana)

Hello Grant! I consider the chordal content, allthough difficult physically, is actually quite simple but the dischords are used to such a superb effect that one cannot help but be bewitched! I would put the stress on "physically difficult" in case you mean "physical condition" or stamina or enduran...

Re: wrong files ? Byrd Gaudeamus omnes in Domino

I can confirm, too, that the files correspond. Maybe it is a bit confusing when (especially high) voices intersect. But this is a disadvantage of MIDI files, at least for General MIDI. I try to lessen this by using different channels and sounds.

Re: Madrigal accompaniment - Lute or guitar?

Seems that there is no other alternative? But why shouldn't we use the guitar as the direct descendant of the lute? You can tune guitars in lute scale, and you may use different strings to approach the typical sound. Guitars are also more powerful and easier to play. Give it a try, and if it's not w...

Re: O Fortuna (Carmina Burana)

Dear all, as far as I know (after singing this extraordinary piece a dozen times and studying the score very carefully) there is no edition for a single piano to substitute this massive orchestra. In fact, "Klavierauszug" means piano reduction , and the one available is not by Orff himself. It is no...

Re: Which pitch pipe do I need?

I think the best "instrument" is still a tuning fork. No other gadgets.

My recommendation: it's not difficult to learn finding any note with the help of a tuning fork. There are intervals; at least that's what you're singing ...

Minor layout issue

Dear Admins,

I noticed that when using

Code: Select all

{{editions|xy}}
the phrase is set in italics while the brackets are set upright. This leads to collisions of brackets and content in many cases.

Is this worth to be fixed?

Re: Am I too loud?

Oh my goodness, these "rules" must come from conductors who certainly haven't sung in choirs themselves! How can one state these silly advices? I assume that any singer in a choir (at least) tries to listen to his fellows. It's not the singer's task to decide if he's too loud or not. As a conductor ...
